Which instrument(s) do you play and what influences your music?



I play violin, trumpet, french horn
and I think most of my sounds derive from epic post-rock (IE Mono, Godspeed etc.)

My main musical influences are bands of the "post-rock" and ambient drone category:
Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Beef Terminal, Mono, Set Fire to Flames, Eluvium, Stars of the Lid, Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra and Tra-la-la Band, Explosions in the sky, Avro Part, Johan Johansson, Sigur Ros

And my other influences are old hardcore bands/"emo-violence" bands/experimental "hardcore" bands/the no-wave movement/punk/noise, harsh noise acts such as:
Funeral Diner, I would set myself on fire for you, I wrote haikus about cannibalism in your yearbook, Envy, Minor Threat, Black Flag, Circle takes the square, Throbbing Gristle, Teenage jesus & the jerks, Sonic Youth, Suis la Lune, Suffocate for Fucks Sake, Daitro, Black Dice, Thunder bolt, etc

I play guitar(9 years), drums(12 years), and bass(all guitar players claim to play bass, so i dunno how long i've ACTUALLY been playing, only really had an interest for maybe 2 years or so, off and on).

As far as influences, shit, the whole world around me, but if we're talking just music, what influenced ME to want to not just enjoy music, but play it, was mostly 80's thrash/metal. Metallica, Slayer, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Dream Theater, Yngwie Malmsteen, stuff like that. From there I got into death/black metal, and i've always had a love for blues/jazz/prog, just about anything to be honest...I love rap/hip-hop, reggae, old country... just a music lover in general.

i play guitar and love to experiment with tunings. i'm primarily influenced by the blues of hendrix. then i have a strong aestetical bonding with the drone and ambient distortions by bands like earth, spacemen 3 and some shoegazers. i like powerful music.

I play guitar (classically and I also play tech-metal), cello and piano. However I use none of these talents in actually recording music due to a lack of money/hardware.

I use my laptop and Ableton Live 7.0/Audacity to make abstract electronica with my primary influences being Stars of the Lid, Lustmord and classical composers John Cage and Terry Riley, although I listen to pretty much everything (like actually everything).

I'd totally be up for someone adding some wack poetry/rap over any of my music, so gizza shout if you'd be up for that.

I've been told my songs sound like Mogwai...and I sound like Peter Hook from Joy Division...I never listened to Mogwai until someone said that. Joy Division/The Cure and even Rush were a huge influence to me back in the 80's. I fought learning covers all my life. I noodle and work with loops and try my best to stay a virgin to what I might have sounded like if I was in a band back when I was a teen. I play bass mainly....I do drum and play the four strings on my acoustic to go along with my songs.

I really like the way I play the guitar on this tune and when a guitarist comes over and plays to this I cringe most of the time because its not the way I would do it...I would love to do this song and have a nice girls voice to it.
